An international conference "Around VIRGO" has been organized by CNRS and INFN in Tirrenia, Pisa (Italy) from 20 to 24 September 1998 on the following topics:
The idea was to cover a number of frontier fields, the development of which may have an impact, in the near and/or long term future, on the performance of the detectors aiming first to detect and then to observe gravitational waves from the Universe.
